Birds in Winter

Birds In Winter

A flash of blue in a dim brown tree,
Or a redwing against the snow,
Brings a moment's pleasure
So rare in Winter's flow.

Driven south by mighty winds,
Only a few remain
To greet the dismal mornings,
Or sing a bright refrain.

Bird feeders full and ready,
I watch them every day;
They come and eat and trill
And in thanks for them I pray.
